Na infância eu não fui como os outros foram - eu não vi
Como outros viram - não pude trazer minhas paixões de uma fonte comum
A partir da mesma fonte que eu não tenha tomado a minha tristeza;
Eu não conseguia despertar o meu coração a alegria no mesmo tom.
E tudo que eu amei eu amei sozinho. Então - na minha infância - no amanhecer de uma vida mais tormentosa
Foi elaborado de cada profundidade do bem e do mal o mistério que ainda me liga:
Da torrente ou da fonte, do penhasco vermelho da montanha,
Do sol que rolou em volta de mim em sua tonalidade Outono de ouro
Do relâmpago no céu, enquano ele me passava voando por mim
Do trovão e da tempestade, a nuvem que tomou a forma
(quando o resto do céu estava azul) de um demônio a minha vista

And all i lov'd i lov'd alone. then - in my childhood - in the dawn of a most stormy life
Was drawn from every depth of good and ill the mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain, from the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that `round me roll'd in it's autumn tint of gold
From the lightning in the sky as it pass'd me flying by
From the thunder and the storm, and the cloud that took the form
(when the rest of heaven was blue) of a demon in my view.
